TONTO NATIONAL MONUMENT CLIFF DWELLINGS
Tonto National Monument showcases two historic, Salado-style cliff dwellings. You’ll see colorful pottery, woven cotton cloth and other artifacts that tell a story of people living and using resources from the northern Sonoran Desert from 1250 to 1450 CE.
OLD DOMINION MINE PARK
The Old Dominion Historic Mine Park is now a well-loved local resource, honored by the Governor as an Arizona Centennial Legacy Project. The park, used for gathering and recreation educates visitors on the history and mining of the area, while demonstrating sustainable mining development and site reclamation.
ROUND MOUNTAIN PARK
Round Mountain Park is Globe’s features four short, easy hiking trails that all loop together: West Round Mountain, East Round Mountain, Boulder Canyon, and Box Canyon. Even though the trail is right next to a city, boasts lovely desert scenery and colorful rocks. Round Mountain Park is open from sunrise to sunset.
SALT RIVER CANYON SCENIC DRIVE
The canyon, one of the most beautiful places in Arizona, is about 40 miles northeast of Globe on U.S. 60. The Salt River Canyon was formed by thousands of years of a river cutting to the geologic core. On the drive to its steep and twisting expanse, you’ll pass the mining towns of Miami, Claypool and Globe. Then, be sure to stop at The Salt River Canyon Viewpoint at the top of the canyon for outstanding views of the gorge!
